Lizzy Shannon admits a fascination with stories with
themes where people have been thrust completely out of
their element, such as the astronauts on the Planet of the
Apes futuristic Earth, the lone half-Vulcan Spock in Star
Trek, and the English Captain Blackthorne in Shogun, a
pilot adrift in ancient feudal Japan.
Thrown out of her own element when she emigrated from
Northern Ireland to the United States, Time Twist grew
from a facetious 'what if' into a full-blown science
fiction/time travel tale.
Lizzy worked briefly as a Consultant with the Ricia
Mainhardt Agency in New York. Follow the links on the top

for her.
Lizzy recently had a screenplay optioned in Hollywood, and
other works include a stage adaptation of LM
Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables, which has been on
two US national tours; also a fantasy short story set in
Ulster, Navan’s Hound, in an anthology by Wolfsinger
Publications, WolfSongs I.
She is a Board Director of the Willamette Writers, who
hosts a high-profile literary conference every August in
Portland, Oregon.

Caught in time…
In the 21st century, humanity still believes they are alone
in the universe. That changes when temporal
experiments from the future go wrong, and an innocent
bystander, Catriona Logan, is suddenly thrust into a
future where the Earth is a wasteland. Humanity now
reluctantly fights for the alien Leontors in a war against
the reptoid Komodoans, in return for technology to re-
terraform their ruined Earth.
The war is at a stalemate. Catriona’s unique 21st century
brainwave patterns will ensure a victory to whoever can
scan her first, and she becomes a pawn between the
alien races. Captured, Catriona must unravel the threads
of deceit and find a mysterious and compelling ally in a
world where her rules no longer apply.
Time is fractured and only Catriona can put it right, but at
what cost?

Chapter One
2001
Catriona Logan watched the bubbles in her cheap champagne
effervesce and disperse. On the wall, a torn playbill for Beauty and
the Beast hung crookedly, and Catriona flinched at the cacophony
her companions made raising yet another toast toward it.
“One more year!”
She plastered a smile across her face and joined in. Tonight the
cast celebrated the first-year anniversary of the launch of their
London fringe theater musical, and had invaded the Elephant and
Castle bar to revel in another year of paid work.
Catriona saw her name on the playbill listed under the character of
Beauty and grimaced. Right now she felt far from beautiful, her
thicket of red hair plastered to her head from the heavy wig she
wore on stage and her pale complexion flushed from heat. Her
colleagues had crammed eleven stools around the table, which
should have seated only six. The décor sported a subdued brass
and horse motif with a carved plaster ceiling, not much different
from the Victorian era when it had been built, but cigarette smoke
made everything foggy.
Catriona looked at the faces around her, all animated after tonight’s
performance. Her stomach twisted with guilt. She couldn’t bring
herself to share their enthusiasm, dreading the prospect of an
infinite number of performances ahead. Her fellow actors might be
happy to live like they were caught in a time warp, performing the
same lines over and over, but Catriona felt trapped. Her childhood
dream when growing up in Scotland was to be a professional
actress in London. But she’d become disillusioned after three years
of trying to make it to the West End. She suspected she’d never be
good enough and would always be doomed to small productions
and fringe theater.
“Any room, Cat?”
The shout close to her ear made her jump. She smiled at the slight,
ginger-haired man clutching his champagne flute, and edged over,
patting the barstool beside her.
“I’m going soon, Bill – squeeze in here.”
He eased himself down and they leaned against each other like
Siamese twins, their red hair almost matching.
Catriona peered at her wristwatch. Just another few minutes before
the last train home to Brent Cross.
Bill nodded toward her untouched drink. “D’you not like it?”
“Too sweet.”
“I agree.” He placed his glass down on the sticky table. “Here!” he
waved to the bartender, “bring us a couple of Glenfiddich shots!”
Catriona glanced at the time again. Just time for a quick one. “That
sounds exactly what the doctor ordered,” she grinned, her ‘r’s rolling.
The bartender placed the shots of golden whisky before them and
Catriona and Bill tapped glasses, downing the fiery liquid in one
swallow.
A movement at the bar caught Catriona’s eye and she glanced
over. A man in a hooded raincoat stood half-obscured in the
shadows, so still he looked like a mannequin. She placed her shot
glass on the table and twisted round to get a better look, but he had
vanished.
“What is it?” asked Bill, following her gaze.
